Sunday 11th October

Quite a productive day today, I got much done. After learning from the mistakes from my previous test on modelling a head I decided that the reference images I had were awful as the didn't lineup at all. So I set about creating these new reference images for both the head and body so that the finished model would closer represent a 3d version of the below images.

As you can see I have made these images so that they line up pretty well. This should make the modeling stage slightly more accurate and less open to my guess work

I then went about starting to model the head. This was a long and arduous task that required me to scrutinise for hours on end images of good edgeflow which I found on the internet. This was to make sure that the head woul have proper edge flow and as a result end up fully animatable..

I've modelled a really low poly body to support the head that I've created. Here you can see that I've had fun rigging the body to see how well it would deform. Im pleased with the results.

One thing you may have noticed is that the body does not have any hands attached. Fear not, I shall ge round to modelling them very soon.

Later on in the day I produced this mockup of what the character would look like, sans the hands and hair. As a side note, I may not include hair as I like the look of the character as he is now but we'll see how things go.

Friday 9th October

Today I had a go at modelling my character. This was a test to introduce good edge flow to my own character. I think Ill need to start modelling again after creating more accurate orthographic images to model from as my front and side ones are very different.

Test model.
notes: Although the edge flow is reasonably good and animatable this is not how I intended for my character to look like. I'm going to drawn another front and side for the character to better obtain the look I am after.

That's all for now folks!

Thursday 8th October - Lecture 2

Hello, My name is Arran Hughes and this is my online blog for the facial modelling assignment for tutor, Jason Theaker. Here, I'll be documenting all the steps I'm taking in order to complete this assignment to a high standard and in good time. I will create a schedule for the entire project and pace myself realistically with also giving myself a week to polish the animation off or to overcome problems.

THURSDAY 8TH OCTOBER 2009

Today was an interesting and productive day. We began by quickly modelling either Wallace or Gromit in half an hour. Even though I did not finish this test I did however learn a great deal from taking it. Shortly after we looked into topology and how we would break down our own images of our superhero designs and prep them for modelling.

Here is my superhero design. The next task Is modelling which has commenced as of today, Hopefully by next weeks lecture I'll have something interesting to show.
